GOVERNORS
The School Governors represent the parents, staff and local community.
The Governing Body are the overseers of a school. At Myrtle Park they have three main functions:
- Giving the school a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction
- Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent ensuring value for money
Additionally at Myrtle park we own the school buildings and land and are the employers of the staff and employs school staff.
We do not involve ourselves in the day to day running of the school – this is the sole responsibility of the Headteacher and the school leadership team.
We hold regular elections for parent governors.

How we work:
We have 6 meetings annually as a full governing body, where we discuss school progress, achievement of the schools objectives and targets and make decisions on key policies and school direction. This is the main forum for governors to hold the school to account for its performance and value for money.
We also have three committees where the governing body have delegated responsibly for certain key areas of school:
Resources
This is where decisions about budgets and staffing are made and ratified, plans for funding and spending are also discussed in these meetings along with decisions around our buildings and premises. This committee usually meets 6 times per academic year.
Strategy *
This is the forum for making decisions on the curriculum. We pay particular attention to pupil progress and outcomes, the breadth of the curriculum, how staffing impacts on school outcomes – our number one question is “How does this move the education of our young people forwards”. This committee meets every half term, just after internal performance and progress data has been gathered and analysed. * Strategy Committee disolved as of 3rd November 2023 and replaced with SDP Priority (Link Governor) Committees. Quality of Education, Behaviour and Attitudes, Personal Development and Leadership and Management.
Admissions
This is simply where our admissions decisions are made and our admissions policy is decided. This committee meets 3 times per year in December, February and March.
