Remote Education

At Myrtle Park Primary School, we believe that children learn best when they are in school, learning alongside their teachers and friends. Remote education is not an alternative to attending school and will only be used in circumstances where attendance at school is not possible but a child is able to continue learning.

When might we provide remote education?

Remote education may be provided when:

• the school, a class or a group of pupils is unable to attend school because of an exceptional circumstance or temporary school closure; or

• in limited individual circumstances, a pupil is unable to attend school for a short period but is well enough to continue their learning at home.

Where remote education is considered for an individual pupil, this will be discussed with parents or carers and considered on a case-by-case basis.

Our priority will always be to support children to attend school whenever they are able to do so.

What will remote education look like?

We will aim to provide learning which is closely aligned with the curriculum children would be following in school. The precise arrangements will depend upon the age and needs of the children, the reason for remote education and the anticipated length of time it will be required.

Learning may include:

• activities and assignments set through Purple Mash;

• activities and assignments set through Google Classroom, particularly for older pupils or during longer periods of remote education;

• teacher-prepared resources and activities;

• appropriate online teaching and curriculum resources; and

• reading and other activities that can be completed away from a screen.

We recognise that remote learning will look different for our youngest children and for pupils with additional needs. Teachers will therefore consider children's age, stage of development, SEND and individual circumstances when planning appropriate learning. Reasonable adjustments will be made to ensure pupils with SEND can access remote education effectively.

Feedback and contact with school

Where work is set through Purple Mash or Google Classroom, teachers will use the features available within these platforms to review children's learning and provide appropriate feedback.

The nature and frequency of feedback and contact will depend upon the circumstances and the expected duration of the remote education.

Accessing remote education

We recognise that families' circumstances differ and that access to devices and the internet can sometimes be a barrier to remote learning.

If your child is asked to learn remotely and you experience any difficulties accessing the work provided, please contact school. We will work with families to identify appropriate support or alternative ways for children to access their learning wherever possible.

Staying safe online

Children should continue to follow our expectations for safe and responsible use of technology when learning remotely.

Our usual safeguarding procedures remain in place during any period of remote education. Parents and carers should contact school in the usual way if they have any concerns about their child's safety or wellbeing.
